چکیده

Many scientific applications use scattered data originated from samples. Interpolation techniques are necessary to estimate the values on non-sampled regions. In a previous work, the Modified Shepard interpolation method was implemented and some unpredictable results occurred. Due to the flexibility of parameter definition for the interpolant generation in this method we decided to investigate solutions for those problems. In this paper we present four versions for the Modified Shepard method, and compare their results through the analysis of the images, processing time and accuracy. Future work for further improvements in the method is also discussed.

Constrained Shepard Method for Modeling and Visualization of Scattered Data

The problem of modeling and visualization of scattered data where there are inherent constraints on value of the data exists in many scientific and business research areas. For example, the value of mass concentration always has the lower bound of 0 and upper bound of 1. The modeling functions having gradient continuity usually do not guarantee to preserve the bounds of data. In this paper we p...

Algorithm XXX: SHEPPACK: Modified Shepard Algorithm for Interpolation of Scattered Multivariate Data

Scattered data interpolation problems arise in many applications. Shepard’s method for constructing a global interpolant by blending local interpolants using local-support weight functions usually creates reasonable approximations. SHEPPACK is a Fortran 95 package containing five versions of the modified Shepard algorithm: quadratic (Fortran 95 translations of Algorithms 660, 661, and 798), cub...

Visualization of Surface Data Using Rational Bicubic Spline

Scientific visualization is concerned with the presentation of interactive or animated digital images to users to understand data. The advantages of scientific visualization are: huge amount of data is converted into one picture, it correlates different quantities. One of the problems faced by scientific visualization community is visualization of positive data. Visualization of positive data i...

Hermite Birkhoff interpolation of scattered data by combined Shepard operators

Methods approaching the problem of the Hermite Birkhoff interpolation of scattered data by combining Shepard operators with local interpolating polynomials are not new in literature [1–4]. In [3] combinations of Shepard operators with bivariate Hermite-Birkhoff local interpolating polynomials are introduced to increase the algebraic degree of precision (polynomial reproduction degree) of Shepar...

Constrained Visualization Using the Shepard Interpolation Family

This paper discusses the problem of visualizing data where there are underlying constraints that must be preserved. For example, we may know that the data are inherently positive. We show how the Modified Quadratic Shepard method, which interpolates scattered data of any dimensionality, can be constrained to preserve positivity. We do this by forcing the quadratic basis functions to be positive...
